E-Crap thoughts on the 2003 Grammy’s...
How much does Gwen Stefani look like a slimmer version of Anna Nicole Smith? It’s uncanny! Or did Anna Nicole eat Gwen for dinner? Speaking of Gwen, I really think she has to lose the belly shirts (she’s about double the age of her teen counterparts), but she did look pretty good tonight. Much better than she looked at the Super Bowl.
Norah Jones is good, but not "sweep" good.
The Grammy’s did exactly what I thought they would do with the major categories – nominate some radical choices (in Avril’s case, stupid, ridiculous and radical), then give all the awards to the "safe" choice, Norah Jones.
Nelly finally stopped wearing the stupid band-aid on his face. Apparently, he was wearing it in tribute to his imprisoned friend (isn't that special?) but he was tired of all the media attention. These rap stars really need to find things to occupy their time and thought! I just wish Nelly didn't have to share the stage with Kelly Rowland - talk about beauty and the beast.
How scary is Erikay (sp?) Badu?
Bruce (the Boss) looked good, and performed well (especially with Elvis Costello, Miami Steve, and Dave Grohl in a Clash/Joe Strummer tribute). But I stand by my case that the only reason even true Bruce fans (like myself) say it is a good (even great) CD is because it is a 9/11 tribute and everyone thinks they have to. Truth is, "The Rising" is Bruce’s worst effort ever. Worse than Tom Joad, Nebraska, Lucky Town, or any of the others.
Was anyone watching anything else but Sheryl Crow’s legs when she performed? Not bad for forty-something.
Avril Lavigne acted like...well, never mind. She embarrassed herself enough without going into it again.
It seemed like the "no host" method worked pretty well. Sure better than having the Wayans brothers, or Billy Crystal. I will admit Jimmy Fallon did a pretty good job on the video awards.
Why was Michelle Branch nominated for Best New Artist, even though she broke through in 2001, not 2002?
Is John Mayer really 16?
Kudos for opening the show with Simon and Garfunkel. They have sounded better, but it was a great, and fitting, way to open the show. Especially in NYC.
I think I'm becoming a Kelly Rowland fan. She seems so much classier than all the rest of the R&B women on MTV, or the others on tonight's show.
Are Vanessa Carlton, Michelle Branch, and Avril Lavigne really all the same age, or within say a year? What's wrong with THAT picture?
Was it me, or did Faith Hill age? And was it me, or did Kylie Minogue age even more?
These were off the top of my head, since the show just ended. I’m sure I’ll add more at a future time and date.
Comments are welcome!
