READER MAIL

A funny thing happened on the way to the post office... Not all the reader mail is "hate mail" this time. Some people are actually agreeing with our viewpoints? Well, okay, one out of how many? It's a start!

On Paul Pierce...

I am so pissed that you are able to say all this crap about Paul Pierce. Hes not cocky. And even if he was, he deserves to be considering he was stabbed 11 times! including one an inch from his heart and above his eye!!!! Kobe could NEVER carry his own team like Paul is. Paul is the sweetest guy. He heard about some basketball camp, and he went down their to visit and give some tips to the kids. This friend of my moms thought that he was gonna be an ass, but said "he was soooo great with the kids and was such a sweet guy"....i am going to marry that man. so f u for saying that stuff about him.

On Politics...
Why do those of us currently opposed to the hostilities around the globe and the Bush administration’s course of action in Iraq feel like we have to apologize for our viewpoints, when the warmongers don’t apologize to us (or anyone else for that matter)? Why are we worried about offending people when those who are guilty of the deaths of countless INNOCENT Iraqi’s, not to mention our own men and women in uniform (who did not start this conflict), don’t feel the need to apologize to ANYONE for ANYTHING! Therefore, though my viewpoint may offend some, I do not apologize for it, as I am guilty of nothing more than having an opinion!

I was just reading your social commentary on the Iraq situation and I couldn't agree with you more. THANK YOU for taking the time to sound off. It inspired me to add some of my own observations on the past and current situation.

In your article, you mentioned the torture in the Iraqi prisons, however, have you noticed that in all the articles reporting these war crimes Americans are only accused of "[sexually] humiliating and assaulting" the detainees? I find this interesting, because any time Saddam Hussein's name is used in connection with people he imprisoned, the word torture is the only word used. I don't know about you, but, among other things, a human being sodomized with a chemical light sounds like torture to me, but to the current administration, it is only "sexual humiliation" or "sexual abuse". I really find this sickening and hypocritical.

I just don't know how many times this administration can stick its foot in its mouth either. How about the speech in which Bush compared the Iraqi “struggle for freedom” (gag) to the American Revolution? Did anyone else but me say "What the f...?" What a stupid thing to say! As I recall, in the American Revolution we were fighting against those we considered to be an occupying force (the British) from our soil. Isn't that what the Iraqi's are doing? They didn't ask for our help, nor do they want it now. They just want us to leave. So in essence GWB is right, but he's too stupid to realize that the U.S. is, in the Iraq “war”, like the British were in the American Revolution.

As to when we are going to leave, well, that story changes daily. I love the speech in which an administration official says our occupying forces will not stay where they are not wanted. Again, "What the f...?" Do they even listen to the people of Iraq? (Stupid me, of course they don’t, then they might have to admit they f----- up!) The first statements from the White House said that we were going to be in and out...then we'll be there for as long as it takes, though no one knows how long that may be, so we are in it for the long haul. As Bush is so fond of saying we need to “stay the course” (gag), which means, of course, as soon as we can get a puppet government installed (see the latest news) that is compliant with all the U.S. government demands for their OIL. Anyone who thinks we are in Iraq for some other altruistic purpose, like freeing the people from a brutal dictator and helping them govern their own country, is in big fat denial. How can people possibly buy into that BS propaganda???

As it is, George Bush's rhetoric has been an embarrassment to me since 9/11 when he first called the Al Queada terrorists (and I cringe to repeat this) an "axis of evil" (gag, again!). And I find it disgusting that he has used the tragedy of 9/11 to launch his vendetta in Iraq, thereby making the U.S. the most hated country on earth. Who could possibly think that with him in office we are actually safer from terrorism???

His rationalization for launching this war also sets a dangerous precedent. Granted, Saddam Hussein was "supposedly" making Weapons of Mass Destruction, which violated the sanctions in place from the first Gulf War, however, Bush wants to reinstitute Star Wars, which some could say violates a treaty put in place by Clinton (I believe). What is to stop any other country from invading us on the premise that we are illegally proliferating our massive arsenal of destructive weapons? Maybe this sounds far fetched, but what is to stop one of our enemies from putting a spin our actions, just as the Bush administration put a spin the Iraq situation to suit their ends? (Note: I do not like the word "enemy", it was used for expediency, as it would have been too unweildy to say "one of those countries who hate us due to our current foreign policy".)

It is unbelievable to me just how far the Bush administration will stoop with their lies and hypocrisy to protect, justify, and cover-up all the illegal, unethical, and immoral choices they have made and it is beyond me how they can still have any kind of backing among the American public! And I truly cannot understand, after all the scandal that has happened over the past several months with this administration and the mishandling of this entire affair, from 9/11 on, that more people aren’t absolutely appalled. How can this guy have any support at all?

And I was just reading this morning about the overwhelming amount of negative campaign ads (75% of his total vs. Kerry’s 25%) that the Bush camp is leveling against John Kerry, most of which either have no basis in fact or have distorted the facts beyond recognition. (So typical of this administration!!!) Why aren’t more people sick, disgusted, and enraged by this???

I just want to say “Wake up America and see this lying terrorist in Christian clothing for what he truly is!”

I am proud to be an American, because I believe we do have a great country, but I am ashamed that, simply by being an American, I am linked to the heinous and treacherous acts of the present administration. Just for the record, I voted for Gore.

Thanks for allowing me a chance to vent!
